PhD funding opportunities

Funding for PhD research in Surrey Morphology Group (and the School of Literature and Languages) is available from three main UK sources: TECHNE Studentships from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), SeNSS Studentships from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the University of Surrey Faculty Studentship programme. Funding for completing a Masters followed by a PhD is available in the form of a 3+1 SeNSS Studentship.

TECHNE Studentships

Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Studentships (maintenance and fees for 3 years for a full-time student or 5 years for a part-time student) are available for Home and EU students who are normally resident in the UK through the TECHNE Doctoral Training Partnership. UK and EU students who have not been normally resident in the UK for the last three years are eligible for fees but not maintenance. Overseas students are not eligible for TECHNE Studentships.

TECHNE Studentships support linguistic research into the structure, history, theory and description of language and languages. This includes the development and exploration of theories of language, the elucidation of the historical development of languages and the production of descriptions of languages or features of languages. They also fund research into phonetics and applied linguistics relating to these areas.
