Stakeholder Meetings
Dr. Mike Franjieh (Universoty of Surrey) and Dr. Anne-Laure Dotte (University of New Caledonia) met with language stakeholders from the Iaai and Nêlêmwa cultural offices (Aire Coutoumères) and the Kanak Languages Academy(Académie langues Kanak) during both fieldtrips in July and October 2019 and 2022. We received permission to work with speakers of the languages and discussed potential literacy material development.
Dr. Mike Franjieh, met up with two of our stakeholders in Vanuatu in July 2018, before the commencement of the project. Prof. Robert Early (University of the South Pacific, Vanuatu) and Helen Tamtam (Curriculum Development Unit, Vanuatu) have worked for many years in vernacular literacy development in Vanuatu. They are ensuring that our community outputs are relevant and usable by the teachers of the different vernacular languages.
